Today I was thinking about what continues to inspire me in my work. Of course nature and raw ingredients are at the top of the heap. But something occurred to me today and most likely because of recent events, nonetheless it rings true. I recalled a years old conversation with a good friend about nothing in particular but peaking with what music got us going. He said something that resounded within me. Very simply and without much affectation he said “i just like to see whomever laying it all on the line, you know putting it out there.” Many times since that moment when gauging how I feel about a particular thing. I ask myself “is this really putting it out there?” I’m not talking about taking risks necessarily, just about putting everything that one has into that one thing at that moment. Whether it is recording a song or performing it live. Whether it is cutting an onion or making a burnt onion pâté de fruite. No matter, if it is being done with real intent and a level of ambition that can only come from true dedication to whatever it is. Then, it has earned a place in my category of respect.
Inspired people inspire my work is what I was trying to say there.
